A Seeker Dialogue: Law of Attraction

Here is what was said to me in a dialogue with a fairly insistent Law of Attraction supporter named Sebastian:
Sebastian:  The point is that its ok to think about how reality works and respect logic stuff, but i still insist that if you knew well yourself god would exist in your heart and your mind. If you dont believe in your existence then you dont belive in god because he is everything that exists, if you dont believe in the existense and the love that you feel for others you are just trapped in your physical body instead of being connected with your true self and that is what makes you suffer, to be trapped in your body and just being nothing else than a simple person (ego) separated from the reality like its something totally independent of yourself. People that really know themselves are beings that are closer to god. If you achieve to trascend the duality with your mind you get to know a better reality, but if you are trapped thinking that just what you see is the real thing you cant understand your own heart or another ones heart. When you are trapped in your ego thoughts, you think you know yourself but that is not the real you, you have to trascend yourself to really know yourself, but if you cant do it because your logic mind is trying to control everything in base of what it sees, then you just cant even understand yourself, and obviously cant even talk about love yourself truely or know what true love is... there is another reality that most of the times logic cant explain and its the human heart, that reality makes you believe that you are transgender, or a pirate, or a hero or whatever you want to be, maybe a character from an anime and its ok to feel that way, most of the times logic cant explain how you feel about yourself or the world, and many others wont even understand what is meaningful to you, you just cant explain it with logic or cold science. Im talking about the inner world that is another reality different from the phyical reality, im talking about your own heart that makes you like things that most of others wouldnt even appreciate or understand... and that is the point of your own life! You are free to follow your heart and do what is meaningful to you respecting others in the way, but always being yourself! You are free to eat Mcdonalds if that makes your heart happy or being transgender or gay or be in love with the ugly girl that nobody else wants because she is meaningful to you, or pretending to be the hero of an anime or meditate... dont know! You are free to follow your heart and to do what is meaningful to you. Most of the times logic is not enough to explain that you like things that others dont, and that is because everyones heart is different, but all of them can love others and that is the power that bond us, the ability to feel love. We are all different, but at the same time, the same. We are love.

Here was my response:

What you are talking about is largely a matter of semantics. I am fine with defining reality as God and calling all of it divine. That's called pantheism, and that's a viewpoint I have sympathy for. However, I think the insistence on using the name "God", which has been so brutally marred by the corrupt blood legacy of Zionism, is intellectually lazy because it's just taking advantage of false kinship that your more sophisticated view of God does not even begin to share with the vast majority of people who use that term. In short, using the term God helps to prop up delusion, when you could be more creative. Divine I have less of a problem with. If you refer to "All that exists" as "God", then I agree with your first point conceptually and I always have, but that is a choice you have made with your "ego mind".

I believe in the love I have for others firmly; it is one of the most palpable things to me phenomenologically, and one of the things which I treasure most. Love is expressed through and is part of our physical body, though I am not opposed to concurrently looking at things from a more spiritual perspective as well; indeed, I'd thing we'd be lacking not to do so. However, you see a false dichotomy between our whole selves, the Universe, and our individual selves. Both are equally true; not recognizing the truth of your individual self and ego is an abdication of your power to serve the higher Mind and to express your universal love. Both selves are true, and there is really no dichotomy between them at all; the trick is trying to do your best for each. Natural Law is certainly far more powerful than the individual ego mind, but your ego mind is also a part of Natural Law, if you carry those principles far enough. Of course reality is not independent from ourselves; that is one of our first principles, and you obviously have not done your homework, and you don't understand what you are arguing against.

Ironically, you are the one who has hints of seeing a false duality between the ego mind and the true self; they are connected and one and the same. It is wrong to favor one's ego mind, just as it is wrong to become a blissful diffuse nothing that can't distinguish one's individuality from the surrounding universe. You have to do both! That's what so many spiritual traditions miss! I agree with many of your words, but you should apply them better to your own perspective. Your ego mind is very much the real you; how can you perceive something that isn't real? Is not the definition of real "that which is part of reality"? You have abandoned your ego mind, which is not in service to your higher self, because your higher self needs your ego for right to be done in this world and for love to be spread. You must have proper ego, not abdication of the ego.

Your words about love are simply glittering generalities. You just claim to hold the perspective of being able to know what love is and that others can't, but you don't and probably can't explain it, so your words might come from a partially loving perspective, but you do not sufficiently understand the perspective of others so they are also empty words in many respects. Love has a logic to it, I'm sorry to say. It does not transcend logic. This has been well documented by neuroscience. That does not mean love is not REAL by any stretch of the imagination; that would just be materialist/functionalist/empiricist myopia. But there is a constant dance in the Universe between Yang and Yin, and the love of earthly creatures as well as logical structure are profound partners in that most beautiful dance. We are beginning to understand that even things like transgenderism, heroism, etc. have logical structure and pattern which can be analyzed. Read Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, any medical journal relating to the transgender topic, or better yet, our work, which accepts ALL of this! The pirate thing I don't get at all; people become a pirate for purely opportunistic reasons of greed and lukewarm pragmatism, which have an evolutionary as well as a selfish personal gain logic, but such behavior is generally contemptible.

Logic and science at the level you apply and understand them can't explain such things as you speak about, but your understanding of such things obviously has its limits. It doesn't appear to me that you have the background in or depth of understanding of either logic or science to convincingly make the claims you are trying to. Your assertion that science is cold just sounds like propaganda; in what sense is science cold? Science has produced so much well being in this world that hardly anyone could be even grasp all of it. Of course it has produced weapons, destruction and subjugation as well, but the point is that science itself is neither warm nor cold; it's what humans decide to do with science that makes it warm or cold. Humans can, pragmatically or by the grace of love, or both, CHOOSE to do the right thing with their science, and they must do so if we are going to save this degenerating world of greed, scandal, and irresponsibility.

Your assertion that the inner world is a separate reality from the outer world is false. The two are linked, and this has been proven beyond reasonable doubt via the study of dreams and of course the experience of eons of humans, but we do not yet understand the full nature of the link between subjects and objects just yet. You are making a precarious, irresponsible leap of faith in assuming a total disjunct between these worlds; the smart bet is on them both being part of one reality. Respecting others and their inner world is a nice thing to do up to a point, but there is also an objective reality with correct answers and real way of things that transcends both inner and outer, and if you TRULY respect and love your fellow humans and yourself, you will learn as much about that as you can and guide others to the best path for them while realistically taking into account how likely they are to take your advice so that you do not pressure or hurt them without purpose. All of our hearts are indeed different because we are all beautiful individuals, but they share unifying principles as well which bind them together just as surely as the warm gooey love that we already undeniably feel. You are correct that we are both the same and different; this recognition is a real hope for you that will begin you on the path towards a better appreciation of the role of science, logic, and objective principles in your life and that of others. We are love, but we are not JUST love. We are many things. Learning the mysteries of ourselves and the universe is the most satisfying journey there is that I know of. Love is a beginning as well as an end.

We did not hear from Sebastian again, but I wish him well.
