Holistic Diagnostics

Holistic Diagnostics

Answer to the questions of Andrei Timoshkov (Krasnoyarsk)
A holistic object or phenomenon is one that, by definition, cannot be completely formalized. Because formalization is, first of all, analysis, or anti-synthesis, as I call it in the quaternary dialectic series. Here is the series: thesis - antithesis - synthesis - antisynthesis. Any formalization dissects, and therefore destroys integrity.
The criteria you are asking for can be tracked, but there are a lot of them. In addition, they are intertwined. After all, we are talking not only about a multidimensional diagnostic object, but also about the multidimensional situation in which this object is located. The minimal format of socionic analysis is four criteria of the object itself and four criteria of the situation around it. But this is only in staticsand these are just socionic criteria. But non-socionic criteria, such as gender, age, profession, education, influence, and sometimes very strongly, moreover, those that we don’t even know about can be added to them.
But the main difficulty is that the contribution of each factor (the coefficient in front of it) can vary greatly from case to case. It turns out that in one situation, factor A is more significant, and in the other, factor B. Moreover, it is not at all necessary that if a similar situation arises in another place and at another time, this ratio will be the same. There is a fundamental uncertainty here, which in the world of complex systems is always greater than determinism.
Remember also the problem of the observer. Observing an object, we thereby change it. Moreover, the way I change it when interacting through observation is not the same as how you change it. These changes are often small, subtle, microscopic. But even small fluctuations in a complex, self-aware system can be decisive.
Of course, you can formulate the rules of diagnosis, for example, see my long-standing article on this topic - “Socionic Diagnostics: Interview Method” (1.02.1999). But with them, a long list of exceptions should be placed, leveling and largely devaluing these rules themselves.
Let me remind you that diagnostic procedures are divided into nomothetic , based on analysis, and ideographicthat are built on synthesis. Despite compatibility, one of these principles will inevitably prevail in practice. Diagnostic professionals such as A. Kempinski and K. Leonhard (their work was used by Aushra to create socionics) preferred not an analytical, but a holistic (holistic, synthetic) method. Here is what Carl Leonhard writes in his book in the chapter “Methods for diagnosing personality” regarding non-verbal diagnostics: “Of course, there will be doctors who consider this technique unreliable. I, on the contrary, would like to emphasize that the observation of facial expressions is the most reliable of all methods that can be used to diagnose a human person ... ”

Karl Leonhard (1904-1988)
German psychiatrist, neurologist and psychologist.
The author of the concept of character accentuations.
If everything is so complicated, what to do? - Practice, but under the guidance of an experienced specialist. Only in this way, in a living way, holistic diagnostics procedures are transferred and acquired from hand to hand. Only in this way a calibrated gallery of type images is formed in your memory. Communicating with a person, you simply compare his image with your internal gallery and draw a conclusion. So naturally your diagnostic hypothesis arises. And only then you check it with the formal data.
But remember: during the "debriefing" we are moving in the opposite way! First, we point out solid analytical features, and then we show contradictions and exceptions to the rules. We act not as Sherlock Holmes with his deductive method, but as the main character of the series Theory of Lies, Dr. Lightman.
This is the same way as a child learning a language in live communication. He is not given grammar and dictionaries, but he masters the language perfectly. Rather, the grammar is given at the output, and not at the input. Do you understand now why our school is called humanitarian? For a personality of a creative type, such a path does not cause rejection.
There is such a practice in socionics - type diagnostics from photographs. From time to time, people come to me with such a request. I sometimes provide such a service. And here only integral diagnostics work. To build a holistic picture, I put forward some requirements. There should be several photographs, they should show the person as himself, close-up, and in communication with other people, as well as in the occupation of some business.
At the same time, I kind of get used to the image, set it in motion, look at the world through its eyes. In a word, I “revive” it. And only then I step back, take the position of an unemotional observer and fix various minor features, slightly noticeable deviations from the standard gestalt. Plunging into his condition and going outside, I get diverse, often conflicting information. But it is precisely in this contrast that one can combine right and left hemisphere functions for a while and quite confidently grasp the psychological identity.
