DeleteI actually don’t love that description either. It comes from a very old article in the 1990s. The EIE is not a particularly nostalgic type in any model I currently use. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that they’re “anti nostalgia” or that they aren’t nostalgic in the binary way that you frame it. Types like SEI and LSI, right spinning sensory introverts, I would place as the most nostalgic types, and because one of those is the dual of the EIE, I can’t agree that EIE is anti nostalgia. However, I agree that associating nostalgia with the EIE in particular is unwarranted. Thanks for questioning that and I will be happy to correct it.

There’s a few layers to this. I agree that Ethics of Positive Emotion is more characteristic of Alpha Quadra than Beta Quadra. However, that’s because ESE (the type most characterized by +E) primarily handles the ethics in Alpha Quadra. SEI is more specialized in Material Resources in Alpha Quadra, but Dramatic Emotions are more characteristic of the SEI, especially at close psychological distance. In Humanitarian Socionics at least, each Quadra can use all of the signed functions, but that doesn’t mean they have the same level of prominence. Your concept of Alpha SF’s may be too coarse or low resolution to work in a multi-level model that accounts for more of the differences that can be observed in the real behavior of people.
With that said, the IEI is a positive type of sorts in SHS, but with quite varied emotions. Their primary task in war-like Beta Quadra is not to feed the flames of the war but to maintain a soulful and light view of the world, a receptiveness and keen insight that allows them to timely adjust and redirect relationships to avert unnecessary conflict and heaviness (such as what characterizes their dual SLE). From this version of IEI you will see positive emotions, soulful melancholy, and some jocularity and romance as well.
Your comment about “real” IEI’s (and your identification with such) reflects not an unambiguous reality, but rather a set of characteristics to which you assign the label IEI within a particular paradigm (and those same characteristics might not be associated with the same nomenclature of "IEI" in another paradigm of Socionics or typology; maybe they are associated with EIE, EII, or something else, or just disagreed with entirely). In particular, confusing any model for direct reality is unwise: it falls for the danger that Jung warned about called “participation mystique” in which one’s own thoughts are projected onto reality and mistaken for it. Failing to appropriately distinguish a thought process or model from reality itself is a Luciferian sort of arrogance to which human beings have been quite prone since the some of the Sophists of Ancient Greece assumed that words could be uncritically assumed to be universals.
Basically, no one is a type. We resemble type images based on an inherently limited set of evidence. Don’t assume that any model is reality; it’s not warranted. Models can be more or less useful tools to help us perceive and interact with reality, but they aren’t at any point pure reality itself. Don’t uncritically accept your thoughts and abstractions; think critically about them to reach a meta-level where you can best observe the separation between your models and all the varied and complex trends of "reality".

DeleteI’m sure not many people like pseudo positive people. It’s toxic to have someone pretending and lying all the time. I’m with you there. It’s not clear that Enneagram 4 must be associated with IEI, especially since there are also many different versions of IEI in different Socionics schools, and different ideas about Enneagram 4. I’ve met people of a variety of types that identify as Enneagram 4, and most IEI’s I’ve met don’t fit Enneagram 4 very well. In SHS, the IEI Creative subtype (and the Creative subtype of several other types) most resembles Enneagram 4. Remote variants of IEI are more likely to fit into types like Enneagram 9. But remember that the different schools of Socionics will likely have slightly different correlations, and trying to resolve that is not a simplistic task. It will involve patient listening and sincere study and observations over the course of years.
